William looked around as he sat, practicing his magic, occasionally taking a note or two in one of his many lab books. The sound of the clock ticking in the back of his head, time... Time was his issue...
He gritted his teeth as he took in a deep breath, going through the components one more, reciting the ancient runes.
His hands twirled as he looked at the test dummy he had temporarily set up in the castle alchemy lab, if he had recited the spell corectly, if he could pull it off... Pull it off this once it would mean only one more spell to learn.
The hand began to materialize in front of him before lunging back inwards, throwing him accross the room.
"Gods be damned!!!" He shouted at the top of his lungs, the sound of a zombie outside scraping at the impenetrable door as he slowly calmed himself...
"I just need... just need to be able to learn... two more spells..." His voice quivering, his hair loose instead of combed, falling down and covering his face... He was so close, the goal was so close but he seemed to move at the rate of a slug.
The training dummy seemed to mock him, mocked his failure to learn the new spells... Voices of the past recited themselves through his head as he covered his ears.
The Mage looked at the ground, seemingly defeated by his own inner demons as his arms became limp, dropping to the floor with a small thud. He stared at the ground, hand extended towards his dagger on the floor, the clock seeming to have become silent, the only sound in the room being that of the undead groaning and clawing at the door...
Silence...
He looked at the dagger. "I'm a failure..." He said to himself, quietly, twirling the dagger in his hand. "A big hoax..."
His hands began to move, as his eyes danced accross the dagger's exterior, the shine of light as his hand curved slightly, staring into it... So easy, it would be so easy... He began to stop breathing, as if in a stasis, staring at the dagger. His eyes were dim, dull now, only partially open.
"Promise you'll never leave me... That you won't die William... My William."
His eyes quickly shot back into an open stare, taking in a deep breath as he looked at the dagger, throwing it across the room. "NO!"
He calmed himself for a moment as the sound of the dagger vibrating against the floor filled his ears before speaking again. "No I made a promise..." He paused for a moment... "Not even that, I'm -not- a failure."
He ripped a piece of paper out of his lab book, begining to scribble down a letter.
"I may be a coward, I may have a fear to kill another being, for all I know the love I feel may even be for naught, but, if one thing is for certain, I'm not a failure."
Upon completing the letter, he rolled it up, tieing it with an old piece of cloth "That old dwarf is going to be dissapointed, but even I have my limits..."
William slowly opened the door, unleashing a cone of cold upon the undead monstrosity as it fell to the ground, frozen from head to toe. "I may dissapoint the Order, but I won't lose my pride, my mind over something like this... It isn't worth it..."
The Wizard waved his hand as his familiar hopped out of a rune on the floor "Mephlin... Deliver this letter to Vesur."
"My, my you never ask me to run favors for you Master, what's this all about?"
"Nevermind that, just do as you're told..."
He watched as the panther ran off, scroll in mouth.
He'd find a way to increase his magical potency within the weave on his own time.

- "Arrogant with your power..."
- "Learn to respect your betters, boy..."
- "A coward, you can't even harm another..."
- "You shouldn't of hesitated, should've gone for the kill..."
- "Mage of Balance my ass..."
- "Can't even protect your girlfriend..."
- "And the cycle will continue again and again..."
- "Quite the temper we have there..."
- "You're a fake..."
- "You'll come to regret this deal..."
- "You'll soon regret seeing her..."
- "Do you truly love her...?"
- "Why did you do that...?"
- "How can you say something like that...?"
- "You're a failure, you know that?"
